Onion Skin Dyed Eggs, with Leaf Impressions
by Lisa Hawkins

These eggs would look beautiful any time of year, especially for Easter or in the Fall.

Materials Needed:

·White Eggs
·A pan
·Panty Hose
·Leaves or Flowers
·Red or Yellow Onion Skins - about four cups, loosely packed

You can ask the produce manager of your local grocery store for their skins.

Place onion skins and about 3-4 cups of water into a large pan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for five minutes. Allow to sit overnight.

Wet a leaf or flower. Place the leaf or flower onto an egg.

Cut a 6-8 inch square of panty hose and wrap the egg in it. Use a twisty tie to fasten closed.

Place the egg in the pan. If doing several eggs, keep them separated by the onion skins. Do not layer the eggs on top of each other.

Heat the eggs on Med/High. Do not allow to boil, but bring almost to the boiling point.

Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.

Remove eggs and allow them to cool. Unwrap the eggs. The eggs can be rubbed with vegetable oil to make them shiny.

Try this with a hollow egg. You can poke a hole in each end of the egg and blow out the contents of the egg. Wash and clean the egg, and then try the above method.
