Titus Women

How Important Are Details?
by Frances Hughes

"Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves."
Phil. 2: 3   (KJV)

We grew closer together in our marriage through the passage of time and with the years much wiser.  We were pretty mature age-wise when we fell in love. I always was a stickler for details and learned with the passing of time how unimportant this was in many instances in my life.

Many times we would have a different perception of an event or a movie and a question would arise pertaining to a detail.  Each of us had seen it differently in our minds.
At first we would go back and forth each feeling they were right.  Pretty soon we dropped it with each still having their own idea.

I began to think about this and came to the conclusion really what difference does it make anyway.  It seemed more important to Walt to have his mind approved.  So I began to just say OK if that is the way you see it fine.  But you see I would still keep my thinking the same as I saw it.  For instance: we would be watching TV and a commercial or a program would come on showing a certain actor in a certain movie.  He would say that's (the name of the actor) and make a comment about him or her.  Sometimes it was not the right name.  I began not to disagree with him but just say maybe so.  It saved a lot of hassling and everyone was happier.  After all, really what difference did it make really who it was.

There is a time however when details should be accurate and it is important.  This is when correct information that is important to everyone involved goes on the record (so to speak.)  You see this everyday particularly when police are investigating a crime or incident of importance.

In my life, it became more important to me to see that Walt was made to feel important to himself than whether I was right or wrong.  As he grew older and sickness and bad health began to take its toll on his body he became more fragile in mind and body.  His spirit always remained as lively as ever.  His greatest desire when he became so ill was to just go to be with Jesus.  His only concern was who was going to take care of me then.

So we sat and talked about the future and I asked him, "Who has been taking care of both of us all these years?"  He looked carefully at me thinking with his eyes and said, "The Lord, of course."  To which I replied, "So if He has taken care of us all these years, (it was 50), what makes you think He is going to stop now?  He is still going to care for me, so what's the problem?"  He thought a few seconds and a look of relief came over him, he smiled, and again he was at ease.  Shortly thereafter, in a few days, he got his desire and is now with the Lord.

It is such a blessing to know your loved one has gone there to be with the Lord.  It has made my survival much easier.

In exploration of another area here, are your ideas and feelings more important than another persons?  If I would be perfectly honest with myself, I could truthfully say "NO" but most people who do not know me would not believe my answer.  Our human nature always will lead us astray as to our personal feelings about ourselves.

Until we have seen our true spiritual condition through the eyes of the Lord we will always feel that way.  But once our spiritual condition is seen through God's eyes, we see our sinful condition and are overwhelmed with the evil in it.  This is when we seek God's pleasure and salvation.  When we become saved God sees us through Christ who was perfect and sinless.  Then we can begin a new life as a new creature in Christ and seek to become more like Him.

"Therefore, if any man abide in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new."
2 Cor. 5: 17 (KJV)
